URL Himachal Government has decided to ban vehicles outside Himachal from plying on the Manali - Rohtang Jot route (no permit needed if you are coming from Leh, Lahual or Spiti), unless they have a permit from the Office of Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Manali.
Permit for vehicles from outside Himachal Pradesh are issued between 10am to 6pm (Monday to Saturday, barring government holidays and second Saturday) and in order to get permit, you will need to fill out an application form (available at the photocopy shop near SDM Office) and submit a photo copy of your driving license and vehicle registration certificate. There is no permit fee, although if you are getting the permit arranged in advance through your hotel, then they will likely charge you a fee for it.
This permit is only issued for vehicles traveling to Ladakh, Lahaul and Spiti and all vehicles (including two wheelers) need this permit, in order to cross the Kothi and Marhi Check Post.
Timings for Rohtang Jot
Rohtang Jot is closed for tourist on Tuesday, those heading to Ladakh, Lahaul and Spiti can cross Rohtang Jot in the wee hours of the morning or late in the evening.
